"Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world, but themselves." - Stephen Moss
Stoney Creek Children’s Club is excited to offer this summer camp in natural spaces in Stoney Creek. Nature-based learning promotes sensory development and experiential learning. Learning about the natural environment and roaming within it builds self-confidence, strength, and coordination. It is a fun, immersive way to learn STEM. In addition to a carefully-designed nature program, children will enjoy a variety of sports, collaborating on special projects, and a rich arts and crafts program.
A week-by-week schedule is below. This schedule is subject to minor edits based on the availability of instructors and speakers for special events.
Breathe!
Campers will warm up with team activities, scavenger hunts, sports like volleyball and soccer, yoga, daily nature walks along the waterfront and a field trip to the park. Campers will also select group names, design their own logo and their own brand!
Campers will get to engage deeply in the environment through the Nature Education Program as well as through art of their choice, such as nature weaving, sewing, and graffiti.
Build!
Campers will get to think about their roles in the community. They will learn about plants in the park and even plant some herbs to donate to the local food bank. With leadership from senior campers, campers will design, plan, and offer a lemonade stand at the end of the week. They will also get to hear from local business owners and imagine how they might design their own future businesses.
Campers will enjoy outdoor activities like karate, cricket, volleyball and regular nature walks. They will continue to participate in Nature Education Programs, arts and crafts, and will also take a field trip to the splash pad!
Explore!
Campers will explore the world around them through stories, books, and virtual tours. They will also tell their stories of the world as they imagine it through designing their own photo/video blog or perhaps their own comic book. Senior campers will support junior campers in developing and sharing their stories.

Imagine!
Ever heard “what if” questions from your child? This will be the opportunity for campers to engage in all of their “what if” questions – what will the future look like and how would they like to shape it? Campers will get to hear from local helpers and will even get to make their own time capsule or letter to their future selves.
Campers will continue to enjoy sports like karate, soccer, and cricket and engage deeply in the environment through the Nature Education Program. They will also explore different art mediums with an art educator.
Speak!
The ultimate finale: campers will put on a play of their choice. With leadership from senior campers, campers will design, write, set up the set, and put on the production on the last day. All registered families are welcome from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm on August 16th to enjoy the play.
